SUBSTANCE USE SERVICES

Substance Use Services

Substance Use Services, a department within MCCMH, is responsible for planning, funding, monitoring and coordinating publicly funded substance use disorder prevention, treatment, and recovery services for Macomb County residents. Substance Use Services provides an array of resources such as prevention programs, Quality Assurance Activities, provider network training, assistance with credentialing, license review, substance use recipient rights, consumer complaint resolutions and more.

What is a Substance Use Disorder?

Substance use disorder occurs when a person’s use of alcohol or drugs cause clinically significant impairment including health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home. Substance use disorders affect people from all walks of life and age groups. This illness is common, recurrent, and often serious, but is treatable and many people do recover.

Why It’s Important

A substance use disorder is a disease that affects a person’s brain and behavior. This can lead to the inability to control the use of drugs or medications. Because of this, people with this disorder may continue using the drug despite the harm that it may cause.
